Though I haven't actually penned one since I was about six, it's interesting how my list of Christmas wishes has evolved since. Back then my list consisted of Lite-Brites, Easy-Bake Ovens and full wardrobes for my dolls. Now, as an adult who still very much enjoys pretty lights and cupcakes, my list is full of very classic and very chic Chanel pieces that compliment the personal wardrobe I've collected over the years.
As we continue our progression toward the autumn season, I’ve been compiling a list—a wishlist of sorts—of the items I want to add to my wardrobe. It was becoming pretty lengthy so I decided to edit it and noticed an unexpected color trend: the color purple. While it’s not usually a hue I reach for first, when it comes in a leather and cotton blend crinkle leather jacket or thigh high suede platform boots with lace detailing, or, dark gray-violet nail lacquer that is subtle yet shimmers—how can I not have a color crush?
While perusing my current issue of Bazaar—love their Buy, Keep, Store and Hottest, Newest, Latest slugs—item #6 on the HNL list, Tommy Hilfiger’s high heeled duck boot, reminded me of the fall 2010 footwear I practically salivated over. Of course there are many, many more but here are (say this fives times fast) five fall footwear favourites...
~Utilitarian luxe with a bit of sass was served up by Julien Macdonald. Love the simplicity in style, the mixology of leathers and the belting and snap detail. I’m going to pair these with a super chunky knit dress—both tight and bulky—and belt the waist. Obsessories will be kept to a minimum.
~Many questions chased each other in my mind when I spotted these… Seriously? How could I rock those? Would I want to? When would I wear them? Answers came just as quickly: Um, yes. However you want. Yes, yes you would. We do have a rainy season here in Southern California. *Smile* I know you all remember the Manolo Blahnik Timbs—I still have my inspired-by pair from Steve Madden; but these are more fun in the sense that you won’t worry about walking in puddles and ruining your shoes. Plus, the over-the-knee height makes them sexy and fun. I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to the rain…
~Architecture meets style meets detail and creates a platform I L-O-V-E. One thing I adore about So Cal weather is that you don’t necessarily have to put things away as the seasons change—you simply shift wardrobe staples around. Ports 1961 (via Finsk’s Julia Lundsten) delivered an amazing pair of all-weather platforms. For fall/winter I’ll simply do as seen and wear these with fun colored or printed tights or socks. And by the time spring/summer comes around I can shed them and I’ll still have an amazing sandal to rock—these are going nowhere near the back of my closet.
~What color’s your sole? I want mine red for fall. No, there’s not much better than Christian Louboutin for 3.1 Phillip Lim—you had to know a pair would somehow make my list. I have only three words: Stone. Cold. Fox.
~Roll or get rolled over… it can be a stressful situation. But, Jill Stuart proves it can be a fashionable one as well. Distressed leather boots with what appear to me as 3D tire marks that twist up and around the shaft and over the knee—I’m going to fashionably roll with these for fall.
As seen on many a spring/summer runway: denim dominates. However, while it’s a definite “Do” this season, no heavy duty workwear-inspired denim allowed. Go with breezy, lightweight pieces that speak to the warmer climate. This time-honored sportswear staple goes beyond the sporty casual and gets soft and feminine in everything from denim chambray to linen blend denims.
Of course—being the wardrobe essential that it is—we all have several batches of denim in myriad washes and silhouettes—skinny, boyfriend, trouser, cigarette, boot cut… the list goes on. So I’ve shopped for pieces that would be standout additions to your denim arsenal. Denim tube dress, anyone? Shop my list of favorite denim picks.
